WELCOME PARENTS

From the day our parents choose to send their children to Citizens Academy, they lay the foundation for a strong partnership.  Our goal is to provide not only the students with the tools for academic excellence and responsible citizenship, but to give the parents the support and resources they need to help their children be successful.  Make this page a favorite and visit frequently for new ideas and assistance.

A message from Mrs. Tonyetta Miller
Family and Student Liaison
My goal is to ensure we are not only educating the children, but providing the support and tools to assist parents.  Parent involvement is welcomed and encouraged at Citizens to ensure the road to College is paved for the children.  It is a partnership to do what's best for the child emotionally and educationally.

Throughout the school year, parents and families are encouraged to contact me when looking for resources and assistance.  We have an open door policy and continuing to build a partnership between the families and staff will help our students to fully grow.  CA understands that we have to work together to encourage academic excellence and responsible citizenship.

Get Involved!
In addition, families are encouraged to volunteer at least 8 hours a school year.  Whether you attend a field trip, help with a fundraising event or help out in a classroom, we appreciate whatever time you have to give. And, come and see the creative performances from our students as they perform in front of a crowd with African Dancing, choir performances, spelling bee competition, Winter and Spring performances, and every month students are honored as our citizen of the month.

 Teachers Talk

"I enjoy working at Citizens Academy because it is a place where both students and teachers are expected to be learners. The students are expected to be learners that put forth their best effort to meet the high academic and behavioral expectations that the staff at CA and their parents have for them.  The teachers are expected to be learners of best teaching practices, so that we can guide students to reaching the high expectations that have been set. So that we may do this, we are provided with meaningful professional development and the necessary support to take the strategies we learn in Professional Development and put them into practice in our classrooms." - Clarissa Grimes

Jennifer Taylor
Principal
Mrs. Jennifer Taylor has worked at Citizens Academy for 5 years. She has taught students in all grade levels at CA and held the position of Special Education Director.  After a successful year fulfilling the Interim Principal position last year, Mrs. Taylor is now the Principal of Citizens Academy. Before coming to CA, Mrs. Taylor taught elementary school in Cincinnati, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was the school administrator for a K-8 elementary school in Ann Arbor as well. Mrs. Taylor has a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University and a master’s degree from Wright State University. In her spare time, Mrs. Taylor enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading, traveling, quilting and playing with her dog, Domino.

CA families are encouraged to drop in to our Principal Tea gatherings, hosted by Mrs. Taylor, to discuss how things are going.

Breakthrough Charter Schools is a collaboration among four of the highest performing public charter schools in Cleveland: Citizens Academy, E Prep School, The Intergenerational School, and Village Prep School. The mission of Breakthrough is to provide sustainable, high-quality schools in Cleveland’s under-served neighborhoods, ensuring all students have access to an outstanding college preparatory education.

By banding together as Breakthrough, we aim to serve 7,000 students across twenty urban K-5, 6-8, K-8, and 9-12 campuses by 2020.

Visit E Prep, V Prep, and TIS to learn more.

And now, we are excited to welcome Citizens Leadership Academy, a new innovative school that is honored to be part of the Citizens Academy "family" as its middle school. CLA will continue Citizens Academy's highly successful, results-driven academic preparation for Ohio Academic Assessments and also continue the Citizens Academy focus on character development and a strong school culture of high expectations and no excuses. The school community will open its doors in August 2011 with 90 sixth graders and will be fully enrolled with grades 6-8 in August 2013.
