Our History
Citizens’ Academy was founded in 1999 on a simple premise: urban students can excel. Since that time, Citizens’ Academy has grown to a K-5 school serving nearly 400 students annually, most of whom reside in Cleveland’s Glenville, Hough, Fairfax, and Kinsman neighborhoods. Ninety-seven percent of Citizens’ Academy’s students are African-American and 80% are economically disadvantaged. With a school culture of excellence that emphasizes personal responsibility, an extended school day, and a commitment to individualized instruction, Citizens’ Academy has built a national reputation as one of the best urban schools in Ohio.
